Official: Penske Energy created to assist fleets on EV infrastructure future

Penske Energy will advise and support commercial fleets on EV infrastructure

Penske Transportation Solutions and ForeFront Power have jointly announced at the 2024 ACT Expo the creation of a new joint venture called Penske Energy LLC, which aims to assist commercial fleet operators prepare for an EV charging infrastructure specifically regarding planning, design, and deployment.

Penske Energy will supply fleet operators with a comprehensive list of services, including EV charging and energy infrastructure consulting, strategic and operational planning, technology assessment, and other key project implementation advice. 

“Together, we will create synergies benefitting commercial fleet customers by leveraging Penske’s deep fleet expertise along with ForeFront Power’s infrastructure and renewable energy development expertise,” said Drew Cullen, senior vice president of fuels and facilities at Penske Transportation Solutions.

Penske is no stranger to the fleet operators industry with 55 years of commercial transportation experience under its belt. For its part, ForeFront Power has vast knowledge of zero-emission energy infrastructure development and asset management. It has developed commercial and industrial-scale solar energy and battery storage projects in the U.S. and Mexico, in addition to providing vehicle fleet electrification services.

“The ForeFront Power team brings over a decade of experience working together to develop critical energy infrastructure for organizations ranging from airports to manufacturing facilities, food and beverage organizations, hospitals, and universities,” said Dan Taylor, chief strategy officer of ForeFront Power. “The Penske Energy team is here to guide organizations through the entire process, from system design, to understanding incentives, to assisting with implementation and ongoing operation.”

The new joint venture will see Travis Hill serve as managing director. Hill has over 20 years of experience with Penske Truck Leasing, and his new role will see him focus on daily operations, business development, and collaboration with customers and partners.

The following survey was sent as a link in an email cover message in February 2023 to the newsletter lists for Overdrive and CCJ. After approximately two weeks, a total of 176 owner-operators under their own authority, 113 owner-operators leased or assigned to a carrier and 82 fleet executives and 36 fleet employees from fleets with 10 or more power units had completed and submitted the questionnaire for a total of 407 qualified responses. Cross-tabulations based on respondent type are provided for each question when applicable.
